to & from
There are direct flights from multiple US cities. We flew Delta direct from Atlanta, Georgia. Once in Madrid, it was very easy to get a cab to our hotel
- While in Madrid, it is so easy to get around by walking, using the Metro or, if preferred, an Uber. The Metro was incredibly clean, easy to use, and accessible.
- We used the CityMapper App to help us navigate the Metro system. Additionally, we walked A LOT!! Very safe city to walk around!
Where to Stay
I cannot recommend the JW Marriott, in City Center more. The staff was incredibly attentive, the rooms were beautiful and it is nestled conveniently near the neighborhoods of Salamanca, Malasana, and La Latina.
Where to Eat and Drink
The food in Madrid is wonderful and can be anything from casual tapas to international cuisine. The important thing to remember when you are in Spain is that dinner is late…most people do not eat dinner until 9:00 or later. Additionally, most restaurants close for siesta from 3:00 to about 6:00, so be mindful of your eating schedule!
La Destileria de Amazonico: This restaurant is in Salamanca, a beautiful neighborhood in Madrid. It is a bit touristy, but delicious and amazing cocktails
Casa Macareno This cozy restaurant in Malasana and serves very traditional Spanish Food. We had no idea what to order, and the waiter said not to worry and brought us an assortment of dishes, all of which were delicious.
Le Bistorman This Michelin Rated French restaurant was one of our favorite dinners in Madrid. This small venue was stunning and the service was impeccable!
Restaurant Botin This is the oldest restaurant in Spain. Legend has it that Ernest Hemingway was a huge fan of the suckling pig
Drinks on the Roof-Top at the Four Seasons.
What to Do
We traveled to Madrid during December, so honestly, the Christmas lights and store front decorations were truly magnificent. Here is a list of the other things we did, and enjoyed all immensely:
Museo Del Prado: FYI – we went during the day, so not very crowded; however, the evenings are free but can be crowded
El Rastro Market on Sundays
